HONESTY DEFEATS POVERTY

By a staff reporter: Kolkata, June 12, 2012: Honesty still breathes in this world of lust and greed. A poor taxi driver proved this yesterday. Md. Salim, a taxi driver, gets a meagre salary from his master and finds it so difficult to maintain his family consisting of five members. According to the police source of Jadavpur P.S., the frail middle-aged man took a passenger to Jadavpur from Howrah Station yesterday at about 11.30 a.m. The gold passenger at the time of getting down from the taxi mistakenly left his briefcase full of gold ornaments and cash inside the taxi. Making no delay, the poverty-afflicted taxi driver went to Jadavpur police station and handed the suitcase over to the duty officer's hand. The passenger was contacted and he came rushing to the police station. With tears of joy, he took his suitcase from the officer. Out of sheer gratefulness, the man meant to offer the taxi driver some money as a reward which he refused instantly with a smile on his face.  He only said, "l am just happy with my all belonlings.

UNSEASONAL RAIN PARALYSIS A CITY

By a staff reporter: Kolkata, Oct, 26 - Life was thrown out of gear as incessant shower lashed the city for hours today.  Water-logged streets, fewer buses and traffic snarls added to the woes of the
people of Kolkata as commuters had a harrowing time getting vehicles to reach their destinations. A wall of an old building on 5 Bhabani Dutta Lane collapsed because of the rain. Part of the roof of another old house on 31 BBD Bag also fell off. The rain came as a rude shock as the city was preparing to welcome the winter. Within a few hours, several streets were water-logged. The worst sufferers were the home-bound commuters. Most of the buses went off the road. Taxi drivers charged heftily amounts to ferry the stranded people. The first spell of rain started around 3 p.m. It continued with periodic outbursts throughout the afternoon and evening. People scurried for cover except a few who carried umbrellas.

NAIHATI EXPERIENCES HEAVY THUNDERSHOWER,thundershower

HEAVY THUNDERSHOWER

By a staff reporter: Kolkata, May 4: A heavy thundershower gripped Naihati and its adjoining areas at about 4 p.m. yesterday. The people of Naihati experienced tremendous hardship because of continuous torrential rain for about six hours, accompanied by thunder and violent storm. The southern part of the town was hard hit as the vast area remained plunged in darkness for the whole night because the electricity went off owing to thunder and lightning. Low-lying areas of the town of Naihati became water-logged and traffic movement was disrupted. As a result, persons coming home from offices were greatly affected. Most of them, thoroughly drenched with rain, had to wade through knee-deep water almost all the way back home. Shops and establishments had to be closed in many places. Buses were diverted to other routes. In a word, normal life in Naihati came to a standstill.
